This week on The Parents' Solution, I had an inspiring conversation with Kristy Boyd Johnson and Alysia Seymour. These two friends have joined forces to create Star Students, an affordable K-12 tutoring program designed for children from pre-Kindergarten to grade 3. Their approach includes online homeschool programs and various homeschooling programs tailored to foster a love of learning.
We enjoyed a candid discussion about the public school experience through the lens of Kristy, an educator with extensive experience in the system since the 80s. Alysia also shared her honest initial thoughts about homeschooling and the resistance she encountered from both her children and herself at the beginning of her journey. Her insights into building a healthy balance in at home schooling and learning through the process are invaluable for any parent considering online tutoring for elementary students.
Together, we addressed common homeschooling myths, including:
- What if I get it wrong and mess up my kids?
- I don’t know how to homeschool.
- I’m going to go crazy with having my kids home all day.
- I’m worried that my child won’t be socialized.
For parents or caregivers feeling anxious about starting their homeschooling programs, Alysia offers great encouragement:
“Pathways will open that you didn’t see before. It will probably turn into something better than you could’ve ever imagined because you followed the calling. There is always a way. Just step out of the mind blocks.”
Kristy added, “There is no mystery about teaching. It’s only a mystery in your mind.”
As parents and caregivers, we often find ourselves at a crossroads because we want the very best for our children. We value quality education, and to achieve this, we must decide what we are willing to change, reschedule, and sacrifice for our children to have access to the best online tutoring services available. Don’t fear the crossroads or the choices ahead. Explore affordable online homeschool programs and online tutoring services that cater to your child’s unique needs.
Not only does this learning process inspire growth for the child in your care, but it also fosters growth for you. Consider utilizing homeschool coaching services or homeschool coaching to guide you through this enriching journey.
